Hearing Haiti
Hearing Haiti was created to bring light to the beauty, culture, resilience, and voices of Haiti. Our goal is to show the world that Haiti is more than the challenges it faces and to challenge the negative perceptions that often surround the country. Through stories, interviews, and educational content, we want to highlight Haitian families, students, entrepreneurs, artists, healthcare workers, and community leaders. We also celebrate Haiti’s history, traditions, achievements, and the people working every day to create a brighter future. Most importantly, Hearing Haiti hopes to inspire people to see Haiti through a new perspective and truly hear its story.
How It Started
Hearing Haiti started when a New York high schooler had the idea to bring light to a place that means so much to her. As a first-generation American, Olivia’s mother is Haitian, and she grew up hearing stories about Haiti, its culture, and its people. Over time, Olivia noticed that when people heard the word “Haiti,” they often focused only on poverty, gangs, and natural disasters. She wanted to create a space that showed another side of Haiti—the beauty, resilience, culture, and inspiring people that make the country so special. Hearing Haiti was created to share these stories, amplify Haitian voices, and help others see Haiti beyond the headlines.
